Feb 2010 – Decluttering Newsletter

As I have been busy scheduling appointments for March, I find it hard to believe that we are already at the end of February. Everyone is back at work, feet under the desk, and busy with the day to day activities of their lives.

Were you inspired to declutter any areas of your home, office or life over the last month or two? Taking it one step, or one area at a time makes it all much more doable and you’ll love the results.

Tip of the month – clear your desktop!

I’m a firm believer in having a clear working desktop and it’s equally important to have a nice uncluttered space on your computer Desktop. Instead of having dozens of icons floating all over your computer Desktop screen, it’s much easier on the eye if you create Folders to contain your icons. It’s the same principle as a filing cabinet really – just drag your icons into their new designated folder.

Simply right click anywhere on your Desktop and choose NewFolder and then rename the folder. For example, I have a Desktop folder for Software Icons [which are often the very icons which clutter the space]. It’s also a good idea to shortcut your ‘My Documents’ folder, and any other often used Folders in My Documents, onto the Desktop for immediate access. Once your Desktop is clear with your regularly used icons and Folders lined up around the edges of your screen you can then choose your favourite photograph as your Desktop Background, something that will make you smile as soon as you open your computer.

And here’s an idea on how to create an inspiring background to your web browser page…

I upgraded my version of Mozilla Firefox [which is my preferred web browser] yesterday and discovered a way to personalise the top and bottom border of my browser page with inspirational pictures. I have a wonderful picture of two elephants wading tranquilly on a glorious beach – that inspires me! Go to www.getpersonas.com and take a look at how you can create an appealing and fun new look to your browser page. I think you have to be on Mozilla Firefox though to get this.

A last word

“Sometimes you have to let everything go—purge yourself. If you are unhappy with anything—whatever is bringing you down—get rid of it. Because you will find that when you are free, your true creativity, your true self comes out.” — Tina Turner
